Privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-10-17

This policy explains what happens to information when you use Lye & Oil (lyeandoil.com). The short version: there are no accounts, and the numbers you type stay on your device.

What we do not collect

We don't ask for your name, email address or any account details. Calculator inputs are processed by JavaScript in your browser and are not sent to our servers.

Data stored on your device

Some features save data in your browser's local storage so they work next time: saved soap recipes, your ingredient cost list, batch log entries and row-counter projects are stored in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device unless you export them yourself. This is strictly necessary to provide the feature you asked for, so it doesn't need consent under the ePrivacy rules.

Third-party data services

This site does not load data, fonts or scripts from third-party services.

Hosting and server logs

The site is served as static files by a content delivery network (Cloudflare). Like any web server, it briefly processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, in order to deliver the page and protect it from abuse. We don't use these logs to identify you. Cloudflare acts as our processor; see its privacy policy for details.

Advertising (planned)

We plan to show advertising to keep the tools free. Once ads are enabled, we expect to use Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see them and measure performance. With your consent, this can include personalised ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and manage ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.

If you're in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we'll ask for your consent through a Google-certified consent management platform (IAB TCF) before any non-essential cookies are set or personalised ads are shown. You can refuse, and the tools work exactly the same either way. If you refuse, any ads shown are non-personalised or limited ads. You can change your choice at any time with the privacy settings link that will appear in the footer.

No ads or ad cookies are active on this site at the time of this update.

Analytics

We don't currently use analytics cookies. If we add privacy-friendly, cookie-less statistics or analytics that need consent, we'll update this policy and ask for consent where the law requires.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and similar laws, you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. Since we hold no account data about you, the quickest way to delete data stored by this site is to clear it in your browser. For any privacy question, email hello@lyeandoil.com.

Children

This site is intended for adults and isn't directed at children under 16.

Changes

When we update this policy, we change the date at the top. If there are significant changes, such as turning on advertising, we'll show a notice on the site.
